If you are a child sponsor, you may wonder some days if the words you write in your letters to your sponsored child really sink in or if what you’re doing even makes a difference in their lives and their well-being. Michelle Loh had all these questions answered and more when she met her precious sponsored child from India.
Weekends with World Vision extended an invitation to all child sponsors to join our third Virtual Visit, this time to the Moradabad Area Programme in India. It’s a space for sponsors to see the changes child sponsorship is making for children and communities, as well as to meet, connect and bond with their sponsored child.
That is how Michelle met Pushpa.
Michelle has been a World Vision child sponsor since 2006 and has been sponsoring 12-year-old Pushpa since 2011. Her desire to start sponsoring came when she realised that there are millions of marginalised families and children living below the poverty line. World Vision gave her the assurance that “this was a sustainable way that I could give back and contribute to helping those in need.”
Sometimes, meeting up with your sponsored child for the first time can be nerve-wracking. You may overthink how you should act, what you should say and how your child may respond. That was not the case for Michelle as she didn’t set any expectations and attended the session with an open mind. Although meeting up virtually, Michelle felt great happiness to be able to connect with Pushpa for the first time.
Every child should have a happy, healthy and safe childhood. Michelle, too, wants it for Pushpa and hopes that she will acquire the skills and knowledge she needs to achieve a better quality of life.
A happy and healthy Pushpa across her sponsorship years with Michelle.
“For me personally, it has been a beautiful 11-year journey and one of the best decisions that I have made in my life,” says Michelle.
