7.8 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Philippines on First Day of School
A child’s first day of school should bring hope. Instead, millions of children faced fear.
On 8 June 2026, a devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck South Mindanao in Philippines — triggering tsunami warnings,
power cuts, and forcing children to flee their classrooms. As of 23 June, over77 lives have been lost,
close to 1,340 injured, and more than 87,000 displaced.
Amid ongoing aftershocks and monsoon rains, families are without safe shelter.
Children — already shaken — are now facing trauma, fear, and uncertainty.
What World Vision is Doing
Our teams are on the ground, conducting rapid assessments and delivering emergency relief.
We are seeking USD600,000 (approximately RM2.4 million) to reach 16,000 individuals with:

- Clean Water, Sanitation & Hygiene Support
